Nightwing escapes back to Gotham, while learning his parents' true connection to the Prince.

Having not punched the guard hard enough before, they had been able to get back up shoot Heinmel once and Dick twice in his bulletproof costume. Still in pain from being shot Dick is on the ground when the guard approaches him thinking he's won, when Dick leaps up punches the gun away and lays into the guard. His punches ended up being overzealous as the guard is sent tumbling into the hole of thousands of starving rats, but is caught by Dick before falling in completely.

After punching the guard once more for good measure, Dick checks on the Heinmel who is still breathing and treats his wound the best he can with the mini med kit in his suit. Gunshot wound treated, Heinmel then leads them down a wine cellar and out the front gate since his apparently his son the Prince of Kravia had to announce his father as traitor publicly. From there they go to an airport where Heinmel has a piolet friend who flies them out of the country and back to Gotham. On the plane ride Heinmel tells Dick with tears in his eyes that the last thing he must do is destroy his son and disgrace his country, for which he asks a favor of Dick. So as Heinmel and the piolet drive to a hospital Dick calls every news network he knows of and hears on the radio in the cab ride home of Heinmel's story being broadcasted.

Back at his place Dick he gets a call from Miggy who tells him his father is drunk and crazy, so Dick rushes to her place only to be stopped at his door by the assassin named Bernie. The two fight, Dick trounces him, steals his bike and drives over to Miggy's house, however arrives too late as she had been forced to shoot her father dead. The cops and ambulances came, took the fathers body then left, their job finished, but Dick's work wasn't done yet.

He visits Heinmel in the hospital as Nightwing where he learns that his parents were already killed by the time that the Kravians went looking into them and that in the end they wouldn't have killed Dick's parents even if they hadn't died, because at the end of the day according to Heinmel they were innocents. Then Heinmel says he knows he is Dick Grayson that he has only a week left to live and asks Dick regrets not feeding him to the rats, to which Dicks says that at the end of the day Heinmel, like Miggy is innocent.

Outside the hospital Dick finds Batman waiting for him, who then invites him to swing around the city and asks if Dick wants to talk, a first for Dick. He tells Bruce that he feels dissatisfied that he wasn't able to learn more about his parents, but at the same time realized something about his childhood with Bruce. That Bruce had tried his best to raise him and that Dick was privileged for how grew up, not because of the money or fame, but because of the man that Bruce was and helped Dick aspire to be. Dick admits that his recent grievances with Bruce for making him to become more like him was stupid, because it had been a conscious choice that Dick made himself and that it was due to Bruce being the most worthy person of imitation. Finally he thanks Bruce and Alfred for giving him a home and the love, of the best Family he could ever ask for and that he's going to take what Bruce taught him to be there for those others out there like Miggy Websters who need help.
